A deeper dive
The challenge
The Municipality of Oslo requires a reliable and high-quality operation and maintenance setup for its traffic infrastructure to ensure a safe, efficient and predictable traffic environment.
The scope represents the largest traffic signal operation in Norway and includes a complex infrastructure base consisting of:
- 315 traffic signal systems
- 26 automated barrier systems
- 4 automated bollard systems
- 15 LED-based traffic information signs (including speed displays and variable message signs)
Ensuring high availability, fast response times and minimal disruption is critical in a growing urban environment with increasing traffic demands.
At the same time, Oslo is driving modernization and digitalization of its traffic infrastructure, requiring solutions that support future mobility, improved traffic flow and increased data availability.
The process
Following a competitive tender process where quality was weighted at 60% and price at 40%, SWARCO was awarded the contract extension—reflecting a strong emphasis on service quality, skilled and experienced team and long-term performance.
SWARCO has maintained this contract continuously since 2003 and has built a highly specialized organization tailored to the customer’s needs. The contract is supported by personnel across multiple departments, ensuring access to the full breadth of technical expertise required.
