Celebrating 10 years of SWARCO ITS in the U.S.!

Where it all started
For SWARCO, that vision was to bring its globally proven Intelligent Transportation Systems to one of the world's most dynamic mobility markets. The opportunity came in 2016, when McCain Inc. joined SWARCO, combining McCain's strong presence and trusted reputation across North America with SWARCO's global expertise and comprehensive ITS portfolio.
The partnership was officially introduced to the global ITS community at the ITS World Congress in Montréal in 2017 and featured in the March 2017 edition of SWARCO DriveOn.
What started as a strategic acquisition quickly became much more. It laid the foundation for a stronger U.S. presence, expanded the range of solutions available to customers, and connected local expertise with an international network.
Since then, the journey has continued—driven by innovation, joint efforts, and a shared commitment to improving quality of life by making the travel experience safer, quicker, more convenient, and environmentally sound.
Growing a global ITS portfolio
Proven SWARCO technologies, such as Variable Message Signs and other advanced traffic management solutions, were now available in the U.S. market.
At the same time, collaboration across the SWARCO organization accelerated innovation. One early example came in 2018, when McCain and SWARCO AG joined Qualcomm Technologies in the Cellular-V2X Connected Vehicle Demonstrations at CES, showcasing the potential of connected mobility technologies on a global stage.
Global and local expansion
With the rebranding of McCain to SWARCO McCain in August 2022, we underscored its belonging to the SWARCO group while keeping our business recognizable to our American customers as a well-established brand with high-quality products and solutions.
Through this, the company remains a strong pillar of SWARCO’s corporate identity and a competent provider of traffic management products and solutions in the 21st century.
From unveiling our new identity at ITS World Congress 2022 in Montréal to showcasing our Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) portfolio at ITS America 2024, SWARCO McCain has maintained a strong presence at industry events, strengthening our position as a trusted ITS partner across the United States.
In 2025, SWARCO McCain began expanding our US production capacity at our San Diego facility in compliance with Build America, Buy America (BABA), to meet growing demand and ensure full compliance with BABA-related requirements across all product lines. Also, our well-established US Traffic Management Solution Transparity® TMS became part of the SWARCO MyCity Solution Suite in March 2025 as MyCity TMS. In addition to the new SWARCO MyCity look and feel, MyCity TMS now includes a host of stability and performance enhancements.
With this expansion of our global ITS offering, production capacity, and expertise, we are supporting our customers on their journey toward the future of mobility while remaining their trusted local ITS partner.
