Efficiency is essential in managing traffic systems. At SWARCO, we understand that it’s not just about solving problems, but primarily about preventing them. That’s why in the Netherlands we developed the SWARCO Asset Portal: Active Asset Management: a platform that makes managing traffic systems simpler, faster, and more transparent. Customers can quickly report incidents, monitor the status of their assets and reports in real time, and access insights—all from one platform.

From separate tools to one system

Before the launch of the Dutch SWARCO Asset Portal, traffic signal installations were often managed in traditional ways. Customers relied on emails, phone calls, and spreadsheets to report issues and track the status of their installations. This led to delays and miscommunication, making system management more complex. While various standalone tools existed, there was no integrated system that connected everything seamlessly.

These issues created a need for a streamlined solution that would allow customers not only to report issues, but also to gain direct insight into the status of their installations and maintenance progress. To solve these issues, SWARCO started developing the SWARCO Asset Portal: a central platform that integrates all these functions into one system, enabling customers to manage their traffic signal installations efficiently.

What makes the SWARCO Asset Portal unique?

SWARCO offers several features to help customers manage their traffic systems:

  • Incident reporting: Customers can easily report malfunctions or irregularities through the portal. These reports are immediately forwarded to the SWARCO service desk for prompt follow-up.
  • Real-time asset monitoring: Customers have a live overview of the status of their traffic signal installations. Performance is measured against predefined KPIs, ensuring customers are always up to date and can take action when needed.
  • Reporting and insights: Based on KPIs, the portal provides detailed reports that help customers gain insight into their asset management. This supports better decision-making, maintenance planning, and proactive problem-solving.

The benefits of the SWARCO Asset Portal

One of the key advantages of the SWARCO Asset Portal is its 24/7 accessibility. Customers can view the status of their installations and submit reports at any time, including outside office hours, ensuring they are always up to date.

In addition, incidents are registered more quickly and communication is improved, reducing asset management time. Thanks to real-time monitoring, SWARCO can often resolve issues before they escalate, resulting in lower costs and higher availability of assets such as traffic controllers.

The future

Since its launch, the portal has been adopted by several customers, including municipalities. Feedback has been positive, particularly due to the transparency and clear insight into the current status of reports and installations. In the coming year, we will continue rolling out the SWARCO Asset Portal to more customers as part of our asset management services.

The platform continues to evolve. SWARCO is constantly working on improvements based on customer feedback, ensuring the portal remains aligned with customer needs. New functionalities are currently being developed for the technical management of traffic controllers, including the ability to reset them remotely. This eliminates the need for a technician to be physically present, simplifying maintenance and increasing availability.
