SWARCO ITS Employee Spotlight

For Sylwia, no two days at SWARCO are ever the same, and that's exactly how she likes it.

As a Works Scheduler for SWARCO UK & Ireland, she is at the centre of a fast-moving operation, coordinating engineering schedules, supporting customers, and ensuring traffic maintenance work keeps moving safely and efficiently. It's a role that demands organisation, communication and quick decision-making, but for Sylwia, solving problems under pressure is what motivates her every day.

Keeping everything running

Every morning begins with a handover from the night shift team.

Sylwia reviews overnight callouts, assesses outstanding faults, checks urgent customer requests and starts coordinating engineers across multiple traffic maintenance contracts.

From unexpected road traffic accidents to planned maintenance, priorities can change in an instant.

"I enjoy the fast pace of my work," she says. "Every day is different and it's so rewarding seeing through a job to successful completion."

Her role is about much more than scheduling jobs. Every decision involves balancing customer expectations, engineering resources and operational priorities to keep traffic networks running smoothly.

QUOTE

"I love communicating with so many different people in different teams, positions and departments. The different relationships we have are one of my favourite parts of the job."

Growing alongside SWARCO

Sylwia joined the business eight years ago when it was still Dynniq.

Although she originally studied Travel & Tourism, she found her career in scheduling, where her natural organisational skills quickly became her biggest strength.

Starting on a four-on, four-off night shift was a leap of faith. "I took the risk and it paid off," she says. "They promised they would move me onto core hours, and they did."

She remembers joining a small team of just four people in the Customer Service Desk before watching it grow into the close-knit department it is today.

Over the years, she has developed alongside both the business and the engineering teams she supports every day.

Stepping outside her comfort zone

One of Sylwia's proudest achievements came when she was given responsibility for an entirely new customer contract.

It meant leaving behind familiar routines and building new customer relationships from scratch.

"Going out of my comfort zone and doing something new to what I have always known was so rewarding," she says. "I was ready for it."

Successfully managing the contract gave her confidence and reinforced something she enjoys most about her role, seeing the direct impact of her work.

Rewarding work

"It's rewarding when customers appreciate what we've done for them and know we've helped make their day easier."

Inspired by the people around her

Ask Sylwia what keeps her motivated, and her answer isn't about targets or deadlines.

It's the people.

"My colleagues and team members inspire and motivate me every day to keep standards high."

She describes the Customer Service Desk as a family, one where knowledge is shared freely, everyone supports one another, and success is achieved together.

"We help each other improve, teach new starters and share knowledge so we can all deliver the best possible customer service."

That collaborative environment is one of the reasons she hopes to continue building her career at SWARCO. "I want to grow and develop within SWARCO because it really is a good place to be."

Discipline inside and outside of work

When Sylwia finishes work, she swaps engineering schedules for boxing gloves.

Away from the office, she is a professional boxer, a commitment that demands discipline, focus and careful organisation.

"Being full-time at SWARCO and a professional boxer in my spare time requires a lot of work-life balance and organisation."

Training every day of the week, alongside a strict diet and competition schedule, gives her a clear mental reset after busy days at work. "I make sure I don't bring work home. Once I start training, I can completely switch off."

SWARCO has proudly supported Sylwia throughout her boxing journey, with the flexibility she needs to prepare for fights and attend weigh-ins. She credits both her colleagues and her manager for making that possible.

Looking ahead

Sylwia hopes to continue developing her operational knowledge and leadership skills while taking on new opportunities across the business.

Her advice to anyone considering a similar career is simple: "Be organised, stay motivated and be determined."

It's an approach that has already taken her from joining a small customer service team to becoming someone trusted to coordinate complex operations every day.

And, just like the traffic networks she helps keep moving, Sylwia is always looking ahead to what's next.
