Prague 10 modernizes and reopens the V Olšinách Traffic Education Playground
School traffic safety by SWARCO TRAFFIC CZ!
On Tuesday, October 6, 2026, the Prague 10 municipal district reopened the modernized V Olšinách traffic education playground. The modernization was carried out and co-financed by SWARCO TRAFFIC CZ. Children can now experience navigating an intersection equipped with new traffic lights and practice the rules they encounter in everyday road traffic.
The traffic education playground allows children to learn about road safety rules in a safe environment. Here, they can experience different traffic situations from the perspectives of both pedestrians and cyclists, gradually building the confidence they need to navigate the city. The new traffic lights make the playground environment more closely resemble real-life traffic conditions.
“Children's safety on our streets begins with understanding traffic rules and knowing how to make the right decisions. Traffic education playgrounds give them the opportunity to gain this experience in a safe environment. I therefore see this modernization as a meaningful contribution to their road safety education. The project is also another example of our successful cooperation between the municipal district and the private sector”.
A new traffic signal system has been installed at the intersection in the northeastern part of the playground. It consists of LED traffic signals, new poles, cabling and a controller that operates the traffic lights. Mechanical pedestrian push buttons meeting accessibility requirements have also been installed. The project additionally included modifications to both traffic signs and road markings.
The traffic lights operate automatically, with their operation adapted to different usage patterns on weekdays and weekends, as well as during the summer and winter seasons. The system has its own connection to the electricity distribution network, which the contractor arranged before construction began.
“Children encounter situations on the playground that they recognize from real streets: approaching an intersection, waiting for a signal or crossing the road. However, they can practice these situations in a simulated environment where they have time to stop, think and correct any mistakes. Safety, both on playgrounds and in everyday traffic, is a major priority for the municipal district,” said Milan Maršálek, Prague 10 Councillor responsible for playgrounds within the environmental and sustainability portfolio.
The modernization work was carried out in August 2026, during the summer holidays, to minimize disruption to the playground's use. SWARCO TRAFFIC CZ prepared the project documentation in advance, coordinated with the parties involved in the construction approval process and obtained the necessary permits. The company also arranged the electricity supply and required electrical inspection reports.
In September 2026, the municipal district funded the renewal of the asphalt surfaces of the playground's roads and the associated road markings.
